Surreptitious
entry consists of the opening
of the majority of key operated locks likely to be encountered by an
operator ordered to conduct a covert, or surreptitious entry on behalf
of his agency. Surreptitious entry can include lock picking, lock
by‑pass and other covert or clandestine entry techniques including
key impressioning and lock modifications.
Most
often used by the Technical
Surveillance Specialist gaining entry to a facility to be bugged.
Surreptitious entry requires an expert ability to
identify and neutralize locks and locking devices using a variety of new
lock picking and lock by-pass techniques and tools. Surreptitious
entry requires making a variety of field expedient lock
and car opening tools out of readily available commercial off the shelf
supplies and materials. Surreptitious
entry also includes the manipulated opening of personnel
access systems; key casting techniques; lock “bumping” techniques
including making bump keys. The covert opening of luxury vehicles
equipped with high-security locks and locking devices may also be
required in surreptitious operations.
